About Hair Up

Hair up is a project created by Anna Blake for her Applied Digital Studies class. As her “Big Project” she will be designing, modeling, printing, and sharing a 3D printed adaptive tool to help someone with fine motor weaknesses put their hair up. The point of this project is to find a way for someone with fine motor weakness to gain some independence by creating a tool to help them do so. Anna was inspired by one of her friends who struggles with putting her hair up and although her friend is comfortable asking for help, she does wish she could do it on her own. This project is valuable because creating adaptive tools provides people with independence in daily tasks, meaning that they do not have to rely on someone, and it can provide satisfaction in being able to complete the task. Although there is a specific person in mind when Anna creates this, the tool that she creates could benefit others with disabilities and possibly children who are learning to tie their hair back.
